The Australian Cattle Dog originated in Australia and is highly regarded for its cattle handling abilities and has a very keen nose. they also become known as loyal, faithful friends. The Australian Cattle Dog can and is the best companion any family could ever want. Although they are a one person dog, they would lay their life on the line for you and your immediate family.

When looking for a puppy, I advise people to look around at different kennels. the first thing and the most important thing to look for when purchasing a puppy are that the parents and other dogs in the kennels have good temperaments. If they have, then so will your choice of puppy.

Dogs are like people, they have their own personalities and genetics. All the dogs in any given breeders kennels will roughly the same temperament.

Raring a puppy, should be like raising a child with kindness. When they are good, reward them and when they are bad discipline them as necessary

A copy of the Australian Cattle Dog Standard is given to any prospective buyer ofour kennels, so they know what to look for in a puppy, to get a good one. A nice and easy straight movement and covers he ground wih minimum ease and effort. They should have a strong head and all their teeth, these are genetically passed down from the parents.

Show dogs and working dogs are one and the same, only the up bringing of the individual pup makes him what he is.

The show dog:
Must be of good temperament because they will be handled by a number of different judges. They should be also of type, strength and balance.

The working dog:
Must be a little more forceful as he has to make large bulls and cattle respect them. They must have the strength and stamina to go all day. They should also be of temperament, type and balance.

My familiy has ben involved with the breed since before the standard was set and we have seen some changes to the breed over the years, but basically their temperment in most have stayed the same
